What to wear for the beach
Fortunately fashion for the beach is more on how to be comfortable than simply wearing the latest outfit and it really doesn’t change that much from year to year as there are not that many items that you wear to the beach that can be changed an so much. Of course you have always had the choice of choosing a swimsuit, or a bikini and now in the last couple of years the monokini as well and then within that choice you have a whole spectrum of colours and designs to suit you, but other than that your basic item is this.
Now what you wear on top of your bathing attire does seem to change a bit more. In the past years the ‘pareo’, the large piece of coloured or flowered cotton that you tie round your waist like a tropical islander, was and still is very popular. You wear it with a tight t shirt or top and this apparel looks good accompanied by a large raffia beach bag where you carry your towel and other necessities and a straw sun hat. Then we went through a phase of having transparent kaftans in very fine cotton that usually matched part or the entire colour of your swimsuit. These are very comfortable and look good on anyone as they are loose and let the air circulate well on a hot day. Over the last few years the younger women are opting for cut off jean shorts and off the shoulder white slinky top which look very sexy and that’s why they seem to like this outfit so much. But at the end of the day, all the above ways of dressing for the beach are still used and it all comes down to what you feel most comfortable in.
